Golf Course of The Month

On the peaceful shores of the Solway Coast in Dumfries & Galloway lies Southerness Golf course. One of Scotlands finest golf courses.

Designed by Mackenzie Ross and built in 1947 enjoy a true championship links course amidst the natural beauty and character of this track of wild land by the sea.

The building of the Clubhouse and car park in 1974 saw the dawn of a new era. Members now had a new habitat for changing with a short walk to the first tee. From a seat in the comfortable lounge, which for the first time they could call their own, they were able to sit with pint in hand and through the large windows overlooking the 18th green watch players completing their round.

The staging of the Scottish Amateur Championship at Southerness in 1985 heralded a turnaround for the club.

The Scottish Ladies held their Championships at Southerness in 1988, the British Ladies in 1989, the British Youths in 1990 and the Scottish Amateur returned in 1995.

In 1998 Southerness was first listed in Golf World magazine's top 50 courses in Britian.

In 2018 the club hosted The Senior Men's Home Internationals Championship which Scotland managed to win and in 2021 the club hosted the Scottish Amateur Championships.

This is a true championship Links course, measuring 6728 yards from the Championship tees, 6566 from the white tees, 6110 from the yellow tes and 5622 from the red tees. With it's level terrain the course allows for easy walking and no hills to climb, meaning you can simply relax and concentrate on your golf.
